I wanted to make a xebec since constructing the pirate galleys. I always liked the looks of this type of vessel, and after a bit of research (we are talking about a fictional world after all, so I was more after the looks than a perfect representation) I built this little model.
It is somewhere around 1/500 scale, the hull is a balsa composite made of multiple smaller pieces, the sea base is a piece of scrap MDF board I found at work, the sails are made from a faux-satin cloth, and the masts are bamboo sticks. I actually made two sets of sails, but stuck with this one, it went better with the model.
Completing this model has given me some insight to play a few naval games, most likely using the Kiss Me, Hardy! rules by TooFatLardies.
Nice vessel! Xebec rigged ships have a charm all of their own, don't they?
ReplyDeleteThank you, they certainly do!
