More Schultze-Böhnstadt characters

Colonel Herbert von Plischke: I have used at least 4 layers of red on his vest. The red glaze actually overflowed and got mixed up with the umber used on the yellow parts and buff pants and shirt.  Glazes are, despite this odd nuisance, easier to control than washes.  A simple method to paint the black cavalry boots was found, a medium grey painted on then a thick black glaze added.

Princeps Erhard Berthold of Jazygia: A singular black glaze added on top of very little medium-tone highlights, then another layer of thinned-down highlights plus white on the white parts, originally painted grey. An Umber glaze on the flesh parts, followed by a 3rd highlight.
The base is more scenic with pieces of balsa wood and two little black stones added. 

Both figures based on large coins; Von Plischke's has had a more rough glazing and so differs a lot in color from the Princeps'.

The figure is cast together with the saddlery, which made painting the horse easier, the figure itself harder. 

I have basically used the 'oil wipe' method with acrylics on the horse. Starting with a white undercoat, I added a glaze of Burnt Umber, wiping off the excesses, then when this dried, another layer of Burnt Umber. The result is, I think, very nice.

The figure was easy to do but I'm not entirely content with the paintjob. I have posted a WIP image earlier, since then I highlighted the whites, added an umber glaze to the face, and worked on the red decorations of the saddlery.

The base is a 2,5 x 5,5cm piece of the venerable ikea box. Evened out with plasticine, painted Dark Earth first, another umber wash added, and drybrushed with a mix of VGC Bonewhite and Dark Earth (about 2:1).

WIP + The Battle of Carpet Hill

A quick peek at the Minden Miniatures von Seydlitz figure I will be using as a character in Schultze-Böhnstadt. I'm not quite content with it entirely so I will be working on the face and the white vest I think.

The other 4 foot officers I bought still require a lot of work while the Essex 15mm troops only need varnishing.
