Russian Big Guns

Here's all four ships of the never completed Borodino/Izmail-class battlecuisers. From a distance they might look like superdreadnoughts with their size and four triple turrets, but their armor is way too thin. They have a very nice look however.

Russian Dreadnoughts

Here are the last fruits of my labor, four Gangut-class and three Imperatritsa Mariya-class Russian battleships. They will join my Imagi-Nations fleets on the side of the Veuden Confederation. I will also be completing the Borodino-class battlecruisers, getting slightly ahead of the Imperial Russian Navy, who did not manage to do so.

Next up are a group of six USN dreadnoughts, the Delawares, Floridas and Wyomings.

More 1/2000 musings

The naval-themed posts continue with two classes of ships - first the Austro-Hungarian Radetzky-class semi-dreadnoughts - after building large later-period ships, these seemed very small.

Then all five members of the French Danton-class were completed (this was the only salvageable picture so there's only four of them present) with a slightly different green-grey paint. This class is for funnel lovers only.

And here's a photo of the shipyard, with four members of the Russian Gangut-class dreadnoughts (also very nice looking ships in their early iteration) assembled and placed on painting stands.

GNW Russian (?) artillery

This is a mixed lot of Zvezda and Strelets gun crews, originally Swedes, but as they have the long cuffs, they pass as Russians as well. I know the Russian gunners had a red vest, but I like this color combination better.

This is a big ol' batch of creative conversions, mostly Russian and a few Austrian command figures.

The flash is still dead, so here are more grainy pictures of some HäT horses and gunners. I have 11 Russian guns and crew with these, which is just the right amount for my evil plan.

Mother Russia sends more troops.

Here's the dozen dragoons, six guns and twelve crew, some of which you could spot in the previous post. They're all made by HäT - not the prettiest figures, but the price was OK and they were easy to paint.

Assembly Line

The Russian dragoons and artillery are close to being completed - in the meantime, here's a progress shot of the scratchbuilt gun carriages. They are made from pine wood and sculpey - the axles are bamboo. 

The heavy barrels are from the HäT set - it has twelve barrels but only four undersized carriages.

Russian Guardsmen and Herdsmen.

It is rather rare that I post something from four different manufacturers, but this is the case right now. In enlarging my Napoleonic Russian army, I have completed the following units, from left to right:

• 2x12 Jäger, Italeri and Zvezda figures, plus a single HäT figure in the rear rank.
• 6 Guard Lancers, of Esci make, on Italeri hussar horses.
• A 16-figure unit of Pavlov Grenadiers by Italeri.
• 2x16 Opolchenie by HäT, plus a single Pioneer base/marker.

An actual Post

The fruits of my labor: two units of guerrillas, two limbers and some Russian Opolcheniye. Totally fitting together.

I'm working hard on the French and Austrians, and find it amazing what shows up from the bottom of my plastic pile (for instance, a complete unit of Voltigeurs).

More Opolcheniye

Two more units of this big box of HäT figures were completed recently. They are very easy to paint , with chunky details and simple uniforms.

My painting output has decreased somewhat, fortunately I've had this pair of units I have not yet showcased here. They're the last of the Italeri bunch of line infantry, and the first of the big HäT Opolcheniye box.

GNW cannoneers

Some of the last pieces of the Strelets big GNW box are finished: an officer in half plate, six gunners and a dude using a blunderbuss for launching a grenade.

Also, some earthworks made from PVA, sand and sprue rubble.

The MDF army marches to battle.

I have finally completed the Commission Figurines MDF lot with these three units of foot and horse. I've also painted up a bunch of scratchbuilt cannon with Heroics and Ros gunners.

WW1/RCW/Dieselpunk Russians

A topic quite different from Napoleonics. I've had this set for at least a year now, primed and sitting in a box. Now the first few figures are complete, and with them, a scratchbuilt Rolls-Royce armored car. Yes, it's made from plasticard and paper. The wheels are from a toy jeep.

These are the not so humble beginnings of a 1/72 Napoleonic Russian army: three units of foot, one  large group of cuirassiers, and four cannon.

A Tiny Update

Tiny both in scale and scope, a couple of buildings and two more Commission Figurines MDF units for my Imaginary Leuwenthal / GNW Russian army had been completed. 

I did not like going all green, so I chose this pair, the Ingermanland foot and Arkhangelgorod horse with yellow coats.

The houses are typical to the Hungarian countryside, their roofs are made from tea to look like stacked reeds.

That's nine destroyers, eleven battleships and coastal defense ships, six auxiliaries, two auxiliary cruisers and eight cruisers, thirty-six ships in total.

The Russian sisters

The Russian armored frigates cruisers Vladimir Monomah (left) and Dmitri Donskoy (right) are completed. They were designed in the 1880s and took part in the catastrophe that was the battle of Tsushima. One interesting aspect of building Russian ships is searching for them in Cyrillic, which brings up a lot of period photos, and fortunately for me, blueprints as well.
