Austrian big battalions!

Here's another big batch of figures not yet photographed together. I just finished the infantry recently, but the cavalry is from earlier and you could see some in the Eckmühl AAR.

My 1806 Prussian army - almost complete

There were no pictures submitted yet about one of my larger undertakings, namely creating a Prussian army for the 1806-1807 period. Now here's the bulk of that army, minus elites and specialists.

Ottomen on the Horizon

(For the less linguistically inclined, Ottomen is the plural of Ottoman.)

I have not been as idle in recent times as the lack of updates suggests. I suspect mainly the fact that the camera is still broken deters me from taking loads of pictures. Anyway, the Napoleonic Ottoman army is almost complete (which army ever is?), so I thought I'd take them out to the sun and show them to the world.

French cavalry WIP

Just a pair of shots, showing some more Frenchies on horseback, to complement the ranks for the Secret Project... soon all will be revealed.

Allied High Command for the Secret Project

This is a big ol' batch of creative conversions, mostly Russian and a few Austrian command figures.

Russian Guardsmen and Herdsmen.

It is rather rare that I post something from four different manufacturers, but this is the case right now. In enlarging my Napoleonic Russian army, I have completed the following units, from left to right:

• 2x12 Jäger, Italeri and Zvezda figures, plus a single HäT figure in the rear rank.
• 6 Guard Lancers, of Esci make, on Italeri hussar horses.
• A 16-figure unit of Pavlov Grenadiers by Italeri.
• 2x16 Opolchenie by HäT, plus a single Pioneer base/marker.

A Frenchman, a Swiss and a Pole walk into a bar

And the bartender says, "Get lost..."

My French and allied armies are taking shape nicely - as explained before, visual variety means a lot when all of your footsoldiers basically wear blue. This is why I originally bought the Strelets Poles - and then there's enough German (and Swiss) troopers in the same model of uniform with different colors. I think you could have seen the Swiss in the previous battle report (where they got badly thrashed and then stood idly for the rest of the game).

Light cavalry

As soon as I could gather enough painted figures for two or three posts, all the rechargeable batteries in the household ran out. I could snap six photos of these, and after ditching half of them, I came up with this post here.

You can see a unit of Spanish hussars (Zvezda Prussians) on the director's left, and Hungarian Insurrectio (Italeri French hussars on Esci horses) on the right.

General Ktoplowski's Polish Brigade

A rather tasteful array of Polish arms: a dozen Uhlans and two groups of infantry. The title of course refers to Polish players proudly declaring "KTO PL" in every online multiplayer game.

The muster contains the following:

• six Zvezda Polish Guard Lancers
• six Vistula Legion horse
• A 16-figure unit of GD of Warsaw infantry
• A unit of Vistula Legion foot

Spanish reinforcements

Not strictly related to the 1809 project, I received a box of HäT gunners as part of a trade deal, to be used as Spaniards. While at it, I found some of the venerable Italeri Prussian Cuirassiers - the best multi-purpose set in my opinion; and then some Zvezda Prussian hussars which were used in one game then set aside for good. 

I stripped the hussars of their previous Prussian garments, and sculpted tarletons on the Italeri horsemen - after some strenuous work I had a unit of mounted Cazadores and Infanta hussars.

From the fringes of the Empire

This is the final batch of HäT figures, and then some Italeri hussars on Zvezda horses. As mentioned before, the Grenz are actually 1806 Prussian fusiliers, and the line infantry and Insurrectio is 1805 Russians in flat-top shakos, with the big plumes cut off.

More Austrians

Here's a few more figures for the 1809 project. In the foreground, a unit of Hungarian Insurrectio foot and two Grenzer, in the back, a 24-figure battalion of regular infantry in helmets.

The French & Friends

Let me showcase a few more bods in blue: mainly French infantry, and then some Bavarian Cuirassiers.

Some Austrians

With the stuff found at the bottom of The Heap and the freshly bought box of Austrians, I was able to complete two 16-figure units, and a third, 24-figure one is in the making. I'm also thinking about updating the existing bods with a white highlight, as they might seem too dull in comparison with these brighter ones. 

Readers with better eyesight may be able to spot a cardboard building in the background, which is a not very accurate representation of the Kismegyer farmhouse, based on the single historical painting and my visitation of the site.

The might of Spain

As you can see I've been a busy bee and finished about a hundred Napoleonic Spaniards. Three units of regulars, two units of militia and the Voluntarios de Valencia (the rest are quite generic in appearance, they are rather the opposite). I've found some Zvezda and Italeri French officers hidden in the plastic pile, and as I've already got my hands full of French staff, they changed sides.

French heavies

This Italeri set looks good for its age. The second set of figures they ever produced, actually. These are - obviously - Carabiniers á Cheval, riding heavy horses and wearing dapper uniforms.

Austrian Chevauxlegers

I've found six more Italeri horsemen hidden in my stash. I stripped them and added Austrian helmets to make a small group of Chevauxlegers.

Spanish Dragoons ep.2

The Napoleonic Spanish project continues with two more units of horse. These guys in bicornes look really nice.

Italeri figures with minor GS converting work, and some of the guys in blue ride spare Zvezda horses.

Dragoons

These are the Italeri British light dragoons. Nice and slim figures and a joy to paint after all the ugly Strelets ones. They have received hat conversions so they can be part of any European army.

Woodland Indians

Another distraction, this group of Italeri natives was painted & based in a day's work. They took the primer badly, so I wiped them over with some wood glue to have everything stay in place.
