We are in the final stages now - you can see the 99% assembled model at the end of this post, and I believe it was worth all the effort.
On the pic above - the forward and rear superstructure get some details done (masts, ladders and stairs).
The first things to be added to the deck besides the range finders are the pair of cranes - they would otherwise tip to one side and are nigh impossible to be glued to another stick due to their size.
I glued the superstructure pieces to toothpicks and primed them.
This is where the painting stand for the hull comes into place - I can hold onto it while painting away. The hull receives a bright grey primer as well.
All of this is followed by another layer of grey, then a thin dark grey wash (black would have a very high contrast). It's especially imprtant not to overuse the wash on the hull.
This is followed by three layers of wet highlight, then adding some details in black/dark grey, such as the searchlights, ladders and the floor of the bridge.
I mixed a nice straw color for the deck and first ran it around the various bits sticking out from the planking.
Here's the entire thing coated in this ominous colour - perhaps one of the hardest to get right.
After the colour and finish is consistent comes a very thinned down sepia wash.
And then a drybrush with a brighter color.
After this I was free to glue the superstructure, turrets, QF deck guns and anchor chain to their destined place. Now all I need is the torpedo net and accessories, some crew and the rigging. Enjoy the pictures!
Wow, outstanding Andás! I´m also impressed with your preparation, and the result looks fantastic.
