Austrian big battalions!

Here's another big batch of figures not yet photographed together. I just finished the infantry recently, but the cavalry is from earlier and you could see some in the Eckmühl AAR.

The infantry is made from two boxes of HäT figures in shako with the odd Italeri grenadier mixed in. The officers are Italeri Russian ones, as promised. The cavalry is Italeri Prussians with head swaps from their infantry set. The cuirassiers are authentic HäT figures except one who has a Zvezda French cuirassier's arm. What an abomination!

The white is achieved by a dark grey or brown undercoat, a light grey basecoat, a brown wash, then an offwhite highlight, followed by a diluted white then a stronger one.

All the standards are hand-painted and made from textile.

Generalmajor Wimpffen-Wümpffen and staff looking proud.

The dragoons were easy enough to make, although they sport some minor inaccuracies. I chose a quicker method on the unit in the rear, only a dark basecoat followed by highlights, but the time gained by not applying a wash/glaze is really minor and the wash pops out the details more.

The old HäT cuirassiers are actually kind of nice-looking (much better than their other cavalry such as the Cossacks or Grenadiers á Cheval I have painted before), but some of the arms are posed rather oddly, which added together looks even more wrong.

With this my Austrian army is kind of army-sized (I see no problem with mixing units in helmets and shakos), and now comes the matter of storage...

    1. Oh yes, I'm thinking Austrian Germans vs. Rheinbund Germans vs. other Germans!
