Crimea River of Tartar Sauce

Off the painting desk ride a dozen Fireforge Games Mongols. I'm going to use them as Lithuanian or Crimean Tatars, they might not be totally historically accurate, but they are OK for representing these types of bow-armed raiders. They are in three groups of four, for my reduced figure count The Pikeman's Lament units, but they can be mixed as seen fit.

I batch painted the horses using the oil wipe method, which really speeds things up. Similarly, the riders are painted in a limited palette of browns and beiges. Nothing fancy here.

The horses were OK to assemble, but the tails are attached to the two halves of the horse's body with a contraption I can only describe as looking like a b*tt plug, and about half of them broke off while painting them... So I had to pin at least one with a piece of a paperclip.

I'm still learning to use my camera so excuse me if the photos are shoddy.

I used an AP soft tone wash on the faces to make them look more like real Tatars, and also added strings to the bows (a fine linen thread originally for ship modelling). For smaller scales I wouldn't bother but it looks good on 28mm figures.
