My crew is big and it keeps getting bigger

The Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago plastic crewmen set is kind of useful. The figures work well with swasbuckling adventure type games, and you get a lot of spare parts per sprue in the set you can use to kitbash other things.

While they are kind of monopose and a bit on the smaller side of 28mm, and also require more prep work than, say, a Perry plastic figure, they are on the other hand easy to paint.

I wanted to play some 28mm pirate games (planning on building ships as well), so got a second box after finishing the previous one. The figures on dirt bases on the left are the ones bought and painted earlier.

I experimented with having removable bases for each figure, a dirt and a planked base, but it did not work, so I ordered some 2mm plexiglass bases from my local source. This way they can be used both aboard ships and on land. I know that basing or not basing figures, tanks etc. is a pet peeve of many gamers, but I can't really be bothered. They don't really look out of place with the others and that is enough for me.

In this lot, two has Bloody Miniatures head swaps, some minor weapon conversions (including a Macedonian pike chopped to form a boarding half-pike), and four are armed with recast firearms I copied using Blue Stuff (two matchlocks and two firelocks).

I usually give each batch a common painting theme, so they can form teams later and would be easier to recognize. These ones are mostly green while the other bunch is red/orange.
