A Call to Arms ECW Artillery

Good news is I finished this set - the guns and figures are based. The acrylic varnish holding static grass still hasn't dried at places but I had to take some photos because the battery recharger still hasn't been found - these are the bad news. I could take only two photos before the batteries failed.

I used some Vallejo inks on the figures - while the finish is still too glossy (and I am not happy about it - maybe it's the varnish after all and not the black paint ingredient) they look proper at least. I'm still unsure about using washes but these ones (namely Sepia and Umber shades) work well and ease the process a lot.

  1. These are well painted figs and nice based. Maybe you can use a matt varnish. I get good results with matt varnish from Vallejo.

    1. Thank you. I use the Revell matte varnish - and I get glossy results with it. Problem with acrylics is they can't be mixed so I can't produce a quickshade.

  2. I like the dark color scene for the artillerymen. They look like they mean business.. I have the 1/32 scale versions of these figures.

    1. Thank you. I know these exist in 1/32 and wish they'd made the ECW cavalry in 1/72.

    1. Thank you - hope a layer of matte coat will fix the gloss then they're just all right.
