Regaining willpower

I've started painting but it's not even worth a diary post. Just some horses and four horsemen (bad omen you say?) from the remainders of the Italeri HYW sets.

I don't understand my hatred towards horses. They're a bad chore to do but are generally easier than any fig. Especially if the are covered in colorful blankets like these.

Oh and if you don't mind, vote on the poll please.

  2. I don't like painting horses either. It's a shame as there are a number of historical armies I would like to do! But the horses put me off! (And Voted)

    1. Thanks for the vote. Imagine a Mongol army, the only thing one can say is what their enemies said, 'Dear Lord!'.

  3. I've not had to paint horse as yet. So perhaps this will be something I understand more when I come to it. I envy people who can paint large armies I struggle to paint more than a handful at a time and need to have a big 'break' in between groups.

But at least your painting progress is progress though!

    1. Thanks, a progress that is. Make sure you'll be prepared when you meet the Evil Horses.

  4. Adras! Your current bunch are very busy with loads of things to paint on top of the horses themselves. That means its hard for anyone to get into a groove.

If you had horses with only tack, you could "cheat" like I'm doing on my Normans. Prime brown, wash/ink/dip them for shadowing and then spend time on the detail work that'll stand out like the tack, socks and saddle blanket. Horses are a pain!

    1. Thanks for the tip. That is a good solution too, must speed things up a lot, will try. Not on these knightly horses though.

    2. Yea, knights are killers. I got tired of them after only 26 in 15mm, so I feel the pain!

They will look very lovely when your done so there is that.

    1. Thanks for the comment; another point on the dislike list. Even between plastics, cavalry boxes are more expensive and contain less figures. It's work to do anyway.

  6. horses are annoying because they are so much bigger and you always need to paint the same colour all over sure horses can have patches and spots but do we ever paint those on? rarely we just keep it simple and boring.

    1. Thanks for the vote. I do white patches, socks and whatnot on them when I have the patience, not lately though but I haven't painted a lot of them, or when I did they were these sort, where most of the body is covered. The horses themselves are usually bay or gray, not a huge diversity either.

  8. I don't mind painting horses, but can understand why people dislike it. Anyway, it looks like you're doing well with these.
