Inter Arma playtest - knights vs. highwaymen

A group of highwaymen set up a trap in the woodlands, but they're trying to rob the wrong target: two knights with a retinue of five.
The knights couldn't spot the enemy lurking in the woods until they've ran into the roadblock set up by two armored bandits and a third without chainmail. The foot soldiers quickly followed them and a melee began.

The cavaliers broke through the three bandits and attacked them in the back, killing one immediately.

One wounded and two dead bandits after the first clash, doesn't look like they'll make it through...

Four dead after the third turn and they are surrounded.

Another melee follows and two more bandits die, still no casualties on the knights' side.

Three of the highwaymen take shelter behind a ruined wall while two take on the open field east of the road and try to run away... no success.

Two knights cross the wall - one is killed -; the other three crawl around it.

After the two runaways are killed recklessly, they have no choice to fight three against six: the bandits surrender and are escorted to the town where the knights were originally heading... time to set up the gallows for them.

The game went on pretty well and had been finished in less than half an hour (18 figures on the field altogether), the bandits lost initiative of movement after a not-so-lucky morale test. The saving bonuses given by mail/shields make the play imbalanced enough for armored/elite soldiers.

  1. Not a good day to be a highwayman! Great fun game though.

    1. Certainly not - after all that painting the game was well deserved.

  2. Great game mate. Sounds like the ambushers were the ambushes in the end

    1. Thanks; they were certainly not Robin Hood-tier and it's not like they'll ever be again!

  3. Great work and fun, Sir. Sometimes it doesn't pay to go down to the Road-to-Riches in search for gold and silver, for cold steel may be your only find that day!
