We managed to play - with two years of delay, due to me not finishing the models - my Denmark Strait scenario, and the results are in. My wife commanded the RN and I the dastardly Germans.
Above, Prince of Wales starting the day with a fire on board, which was quickly put out (still better than four of ten guns not working properly).
The action soon developed. The RN, realizing how little it would take the Germans to disengage, closed quickly. Prinz Eugen, in return, dashed to divert fire from the Bismarck and perhaps score a torpedo hit.
Hood is on fire - does this sound familiar to anyone?
The RN gets dangerously close and cripples Prinz Eugen - she's a sitting duck and will be destroyed in the following turn. Damage control is working hard to just keep her afloat and soak up hits that would otherwise be directed against Bismarck.
Prince of Wales avoids a torpedo. Hood gets a critical hit on 'A' turret but damage control teams avert the worst of it.
Bismarck crosses the already damaged Hood's T. Hood opens fire with two turrets, meaning six dice, at close range. Bismarck's steering is hit (this might also sound familiar?).
Bismarck replies with all of her guns and blows Hood out of the water. An unlucky fate for such a splendid ship is reenacted.
However, the badly damaged Prinz Eugen also succumbs and slips below the waves.
The slower, but yet unscathed Prince of Wales desperately chases the Bismarck whose rudder damage is fixed and she can go full speed again.
Bismarck reaches the safety of the biscuit platter and the chase thus ends. She has one hit point left, so Adm Lütjens must hope not to cross any Swordfish's path.
A good day was had by all and a surprisingly (almost) historical result was achieved.
