Cossack Pikeman Master Sculpt

Here's a short WIP post to show what I'm working on. This is the master for a Cossack warrior, intended to hold a pole weapon, which I will replicate using a two-piece press mould, something I'm quite proficient at by now.

The figure itself uses the body of a Warlord WSS artillerist, and head and arms from the Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago plastic crewmen set. The rest (including moustache and hair) I sculpted with Magic Sculpt, making the original torso a bit bulkier and lengthening the bottom of the overcoat.

Here's a shot of the back. A long coat has sort of a natural shape, so it wasn't such a complicated thing to do. This is actually the second head variant I'm experimenting with, as in the end I decided to leave the figure with a traditional Cossack hairdo, this way I can add a fur hat or helmet to the copies or leave them bare-headed. Similarly I can change his weaponry, or file off the trimmings on the breast and replace it with armor, or shave off the bottom of the coat to create some variety.

I might also just have to remove the lower arms and cast them separately for a more seamless mould, that is something I should see after making the first copy with all limbs attached. No need to mutilate the poor fellow until then.

Some other accessories (sheathed and drawn sabers, a Hetman/Colonel type head variant and a Bardiche blade) along with a musket-armed figure are also in the making. This series will be armed with resin copies of a Bloody Miniatures musket.
