Homebrew Rule Test - The Battle of Raab

One thing that's kept me from playing with my figures more often is all the fuss required to prepare for a game, and then packing everything up again. All of this is solved when I play my battles in Roll20, using virtual tokens. All features, except for the trees and buildings, are made by me. The scenario I chose was the battle of Raab, which has a special interest for me. Most map and initial deployment are on the picture above; I shall publish the rules soon in a separate announcement.

The initial French advance on Eugene's left is repulsed by the stalwart Austrian-Hungarian defenders. Enemy musketry, however, soon wears them down from the other side of the stream. The close artillery support works in the Franco-Italian army's favor.

On the right, the Insurrectio cavalry makes a dash across the Pándzsa, but the French regulars chase them away. The fresh French infantry formation deployed SE of the Kismegyer farm locates the ford and appears at the defenders' flank.

A single Dragoon unit makes short work of the Insurrectio defending the bridge on the Austrian left. The defenders of Kismegyer take heavy losses, although the French are suffering from the Austrian battery on Szabadhegy hill. The French infantry on their left disengages, but keeps shooting at the enemy from extreme range.

After the Austrian left flank is beaten back, and Eugene's reserve appears near the ford, Erzherzog Johann orders the retreat. A more or less historical victory for the French.

Total losses: 3 Austrian units (2 regular infantry, 1 Insurrectio cavalry = 11 Hit Points), and a further 13 Hit Point loss for the army; the French lost 17 Hit Points across their army (most of it taken by the infantry divisions), but all units remain capable of a fight.
