Finally got to paint these guys the 4th time, I know it's hard to believe. It also took 3 sessions to strip them until they were OK to be painted. Strong enamel paints I tell ya. It also didn't help that I simply overcoated the previous painting before adding a new layer at the first re-paint, then just messed things up more in the second take.
Anyway they are now in their hopefully final state. Parts of the '17th century Austrian musketeers and pikemen' box by Zvezda which is now complete minus one or two figs which were salvaged or converted.
Tried to use a lot of brown/grey and that was a success. I also used a brown wash on each of the figs which was almost a success besides not flowing too well, on the arms especially and this particular wash did not manage to change my views on it and its kin. The quickshade dried glossy again but as the rest of the box is glossy too it won't really matter.
Macro shots. The musket rests are replaced with slices of matchsticks. The originals are very fragile and were broken. The movement tray was made together with the rest of the regiment so the figs' bases aren't quite the same color, doesn't look too bad for me.
Front view.
With this the Volhynian contingent for my TYW ImagiNations project is done. Here they are all.
Light was especially good when these were made so I took multiple shots.
Fending off the Swedish cavalry. Feel crowded?
Very nice. The last picture is amazing! Great detail painting and battle action.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I actually just packed them away like that after a battle.
DeleteI'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one who strips mini's and repaints them. I am not alone!
ReplyDeleteI looked at these through lightbox and I noticed the feathers in their hats. The way you did those in two colours is really nice. That last pic is great, they look menacing.
Thank you; usually one session does it all. The whole unit has the same black and red feathers for distinction on the battlefield.
Deletecool stuff! I like them, they look both deadly and rough and ready as the same time. great stuff.
ReplyDeleteStripped three times, that's a lot of patience but it worked out well!
ReplyDeleteThank you, fortunately it did.
DeleteInstead of the 3rd strip I'd have thrown them up in the air and stamped on them, but I prefer the way you did it. Nice one!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, it took long but the patience has paid off.
DeleteWhat a fabulous looking unit, great job Sir.
ReplyDeleteVery good paintwork András. The last picture is great.
ReplyDeleteRegards
